Designing the teaching and learning process
The Office for Innovation in Teaching and Learning provides support to the organisational units of the University in preparing draft study programmes for first-cycle studies, second-cycle studies, long-cycle studies and postgraduate studies.
The heads of the teaching units will find here the necessary information on how to launch a new field of study/postgraduate studies or make changes to a particular study programme.
The University of Warsaw provides degree programmes in specific fields, levels and profiles of study on the basis of study programmes that are consistent with the description of the coherent learning outcomes adopted by the University.
The proceedings for establishing a field of study may be initiated by: The Rector, the University Council for Teaching and Learning or a group of at least 15 members of academic teachers employed at the University as their primary workplace.
The University of Warsaw provides degree programmes in specific fields, levels and profiles of study on the basis of study programmes that are consistent with the description of the coherent learning outcomes adopted by the University. The approval of study programmes is the responsibility of the UW Senate. Consultation with the student self-government is required at the stage of preparing study programmes.
The University of Warsaw runs 4 doctoral schools:
- Interdisciplinary Doctoral School;
- Doctoral School of Humanities;
- Doctoral School of Social Sciences;
- Doctoral School of Exact and Natural Sciences.
Education of doctoral students is organised based upon the programme approved by the Senate and the academic council. The approval of the study programme requires the consent of the doctoral student self-government. Education at the doctoral schools lasts from six to eight semesters.
The admission process at the doctoral schools is organised by means of a competition under the rules laid down by the Senate or the academic council. Doctoral education is completed with the submission of a doctoral dissertation.
The University of Warsaw also offers postgraduate studies that enable partial qualifications at the Polish Qualifications Framework (PQF) level of 6 and 7. Postgraduate studies last at least 2 semesters.
The programme of postgraduate studies specifies the learning outcomes for partial qualifications taking into account the characteristics of the PQF second degree at the PQF level of 6, 7 or 8, defined in the regulations issued on the basis of Article 7(3) and (4) of the Act of 22 December 2015 on the Integrated Qualifications System, and allows for at least 30 ECTS credits.
Postgraduate study programmes are approved by the UW Senate. Postgraduate studies can be undertaken by a participant who holds a full qualification of at least level 6 obtained in the higher education and science system.
A person who has completed postgraduate studies shall be awarded a certificate of completion.
